Profile
My name is Louis Donnelly, I'm from Belfast Ireland but live in Strakonice, Czech Republic.
I am a GAA athlete competing in Europe. In 2020 I founded my own GAA club and since then I have been coaching both the squad and individual players.
History
Like many others I gained a lot of weight after leaving uni and settling down and I tried an array of fitness fads and diets trying to get back in shape for hurling. Alternating between starving and gorging while jumping around the living room with HIIT classes on the TV I was still overweight and was begining to get sick of trying. Trying to immediately train with the intensity I did in my previous playing days just led to injuries, set backs and even when I did make some progress it was all in vain as I was uneducated about how to fuel myself and recover properly.
I said on several occasions that I would never alter my diet as I felt it would be too much of a sacrifice. To my surprise then, when I did eventually start counting calories under the guidance of a good coach, I was still eating food I loved. I wasn't starving myself and I was losing weight at a rate I hadn't been before. It wasn't long before I dropped over 20kg, I was the strongest I'd ever been, I was feeling better on the pitch than I ever had before.
The only regret I had was that I didn't start working with a coach sooner!
I believe in the process so much that I decided to offer a coaching program of my own based on my experiences with previous coaches, personal trainers and fellow athletes.
To this day I still work with a coach and have continued to progress beyond what I thought to be imaginable. Even after time out with an injury and recovering from the resulting surgery.
